Things You'll Need:
- 2 Jump ropes
-
Step 1
Form a team. Gather at least three people to perform the double dutch routine.
-
Step 2
Find a jump rope that suits your team's needs. There are a few choices such as licorice/speed rope (good for speed and stretch, but hard to see), cable/wire rope (does not stretch), beaded rope (easy to see, but not good for performing) and a cloth rope (easy to control, but hard to see).
-
Step 3
Decide whether you will do a planned routine or freestyle routine. A freestyle routine has general guidelines for switching jumpers and timing, but the jumper will be free to do any trick. In a planned routine the jumpers do a sequence of pre-planned tricks.
-
Step 4
Pick the music. Select a song to play while you perform the double dutch routine. It is not necessary to perform to music, but it makes the show more fun.
-
Step 5
Learn different tricks to include in the routine. There are many tricks that vary in difficulty level, so select moves that match everyone's ability.
-
Step 6
Integrate the tricks with the music in an original sequence that satisfies your vision for the routine. Also, like a dance, note the timings of the song and the tricks to help remember the routine and maintain accurate timing.
-
Step 7
Practice your double dutch routine numerous times. This will help everyone feel comfortable at performance time.
