Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Parakeet(s)
  • Birdcage
  • Perches
  • Parakeet toys
  • Parakeet supplements
  • Parakeet treats
  • Mirror
  • Bird swing
  1. Step 1

Measure your parakeet's cage to determine the size and number of accessories you can get.

  2. Step 2

Choose several perches of varying diameters and materials. Place them in the cage as to simulate tree branches.

  3. Step 3

Provide a variety of toys, such as knotted rope toys, wooden toys, swings and bells.

  4. Step 4

Secure a mirror inside the birdcage where your parakeet can play with his reflection.

  5. Step 5

Give your parakeets a cage-tent, nest box or other form of hideout.

  6. Step 6

Place supplements and (occasional) treats, such as cuttlebone, millet seed and nuts, in your parakeets' cage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep several toys on hand and rotate them in and out of your parakeet's cage. This avoids overcrowding and keeps your birds interested in their toys.
  • Include a wide variety of materials, textures and sizes. This exercises your parakeet and keeps her toenails and beak trimmed down.
  • Try to purchase toys made of natural materials, such as wood, rope, wicker or even coconut shell.
  • Make sure all accessories are approved for parakeets to avoid sickness and injury.
  • Avoid overcrowding your parakeet's cage. Make sure they still have plenty of room to move inside their cage.
  • Offer treats sparingly.
