Things You’ll Need:

  • Pocket Pilot map of New York City
Step1
Research and read about the different museums using the Internet homepages. Select museums of interest and write down significant information. Call the museum directly or go to the local library to help decide what museums to visit.
Step2
Visit the Museum of Modern Art at 11 West 53rd Street to view sculpture and installation art. Peruse the artwork of an assortment of modern artists from Picasso to Andy Warhol.
Step3
Consider going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 1000 Fifth Avenue for a vast display of art from around the world including Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome and Europe. The Met also features an impressive collection of American art from the colonial times through the early 20th century.
Step4
Mull over the possibility of attending the American Museum of Natural History at Central Park West and 79th Street to learn about the natural world. Featured exhibits include Cosmic Collisions, Dinosaurs Alive and Undersea Oasis.

Purchase a Pocket Pilot map of New York City. This is a laminated, easy to use map with listings of the most common museums. Use a permanent marker to mark your hotel on the map as a reference point.

Highlight the map to mark the locations of the museums to visit. Place numbers next to the locations according to the itinerary regarding visit to the museums.

Check the map for subway locations nearest the hotel and planned destination. Find the stop to board the subway. Most trains run every few minutes, however check the MTA website for specific information.

Tips & Warnings

  • New York City subways are not that complicated. Spend a little while getting familiar with the lines and have an easier time finding your way around.
  • Taxi cab drivers usually know the locations of all the major museums. Carry the address just in case you take a taxi.
