Not all hairstyles are created equal. The rules that apply to caring for long and medium length hair are different from the rules for people with short 'dos. So if you just got cropped, listen up. Here's how to shampoo hair ear length and shorter.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the right shampoo, based on your hair type. You can ask your hair stylist for recommendations, or just spend the time to read the labels at the drugstore. You can usually find your favorite brand shampoo in formulations for people with oily, dry, fine, dandruff and color-treated hair.

  2. Step 2

Wet your hair thoroughly before applying shampoo. This makes it easier for you to work the lather into your hair.

  3. Step 3

Lather and massage your scalp and work the suds upwards towards the tips of your hair.

  4. Step 4

Rinse your hair thoroughly. Using cold water adds shine to your hair once it's dry.

  5. Step 5

Skip the "repeat" step most shampoo bottles recommend--if your hair is very short, this probably is not necessary.

  6. Step 6

Repeat this process as often as you please. Oily hair usually needs to be washed daily, but if you have dry, coarse or kinky hair, as little as once a week might be appropriate. Ask your hair stylist for tips.
