Instructions

    • 1

Remove excess feces which may have become trapped by long hair around the anus before bathing the dog.

    • 2

Brush and comb the dog thoroughly before bathing.

    • 3

Fluff the dog's hair dry for the best effect. Don't cage dry Bearded Collies. Once dry, comb the dog's hair again to a satisfactory finish.

    • 4

Scissor the feet evenly after drying. Use thinning shears on the neck and the back if desired.

    • 5

Comb hair on the chest downwards towards the grooming table.

Tips & Warnings

  • Breeders developed Bearded Collies in Scotland as herding dogs. Owners trained them to become independent workers who could make important decisions in the absence of the shepherd.

  • Bearded Collies are often affectionately referred to as "Beardies."

  • Bearded Collies have a double coat, which often becomes matted if not well maintained. Avoid this by using spray on de-tangling products before you bathe the dog.

  • Set dryers to a moderate setting. If you use a force dryer, set it to low.

  • When re-combing the dog's hair after a bath, don't forget to comb an even part down the back.

  • You must fully remove the undercoat along the dog's spine. If you don't, then a good part is nearly impossible to achieve.
