How to Groom a French Bulldog

French bulldogs are strong little dogs with bodies resembling pears. They are friendly, relaxed and affectionate companions that usually get along well with other dogs. French bulldogs thrive on attention and play. Their general maintenance is only a monthly requirement, and you only need to give them a full grooming once every 8 to 12 weeks.

Things You’ll Need:

• Rubber brush
• Hound brush
• Scissors

1. Use scissors to clip whiskers, if desired.
2. Clean out the facial folds with baby wipes before bathing. This can help get rid of dirt and grime which may collect there.
3. Bathe the dog using a whitening shampoo.
4. Dry the dog. A force dryer isn't normally necessary.
5. Brush the dog with a hound brush during drying. This helps make the coat appear smooth and flat.
6. Apply baby powder to the facial folds to absorb moisture from the bath.
7. Use scissors to clean up the edges around the dog's ears.
8. Use a final coat conditioner to improve the overall appearance of the dog. Only a small amount is necessary, and a good brushing should distribute it properly.

Tips & Warnings

• Some people prefer to keep the whiskers on French bulldogs trimmed. Others like to let them grow naturally. It's purely a matter of taste, so choose the look you prefer.
• Scrubbing a French bulldog with a rubber brush during the bath can help remove additional hair.
• Don't use a clipper blade to clean out facial folds can irritate the skin. If you do, the dog may continually scratch at the skin causing further injury. In some cases, the dog may even accidentally scratch at its own eyes.
