How to Duplicate a DVD

DVDs through overuse or abuse can just plain wear out. Well a great way to remedy this is to make duplicate copies of the DVDs so that originals stay wear free. DVD duplication can also be a great source of sharing your favorite shows or movies with family members and friends. Read on to learn more.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Blank DVD
  • Non-blank DVD
  • Computer with duplicating software

Duplicate a DVD with one drive bay

Step1
Check the computer to make sure it has duplicating software installed. If the software is missing, conduct an Internet search using the term "free DVD burning software." Once a suitable software platform is found, follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Step2
Insert the non-blank DVD into the writeable DVD drive bay.
Step3
Launch the DVD duplicating software. Select "start" from the main operating system menu. Next, locate the duplicating software and click on it.
Step4
Select the "copy" or "duplicate" option from the main menu of the duplicating software.
Step5
Choose the "disk copy" or "disk duplicate" option from the copy submenu.
Step6
Select the drive letter that contains the DVD. In the second drive menu, select the same drive that the user previously chose. Once the same drives are both selected, click on the "start" or "copy" option.
Step7
Remove the DVD and insert the blank DVD into the drive bay. The software will usually prompt the user to insert the blank DVD once the writing process completes.
Step8
Play the DVD to make sure it works properly. If there are any errors, please consult the user manual of the computer or the duplicating software.

Duplicate a DVD with multiple drive bays

Step1

Locate the writeable drive and insert the blank disk.
Step3
Insert the DVD that is to be duplicated into a readable drive.
Step4
Launch the DVD duplicating software. From the main menu of the operating system, click "start". Next, locate the DVD burning software.
Step5
Select the disk copy from the copy submenu. On the first option, choose the drive bay letter that contains the DVD that the user wants to duplicate. On the second drop down menu, select the drive bay letter which contains the blank DVD.
Step6
Choose the disk copy or start process button.
Step7
Test the DVD to make sure the DVD duplicated successfully. If there are any errors, please consult the user manual of the computer or the duplicating software.
