One of the most useful features available in the Firefox Internet browser is the extensions. When installing a new release, it can be frustrating to find out the old extensions from the previous version will not work. However, with a few steps these extensions can be made to function in the new browser.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Option One

Step1
Download and install the nightly tester tool. Follow the on-screen menu options to install the tester extension. After installation, a new button will appear on the Firefox browser. Click on this button the make the old extensions compatible.
Step2
Test the extension for compatibility. Pick an old extension that did not work previously.
Step3
Proceed to Option Two if the old extension does not work. There can be a problem with operating system or some internal computer setting that prevents the nightly tester tool from working.

Option Two

Step1
Open the Firefox web browser. Now type "about:config" in the location URL menu.
Step2
Type the command line "extensions.checkCompatibility" in the menu filter bar. Double click on the command line to change the value setting from true to false.
Step3
Check to make sure the old extensions work now. Again, try to use an old extension in Firefox. If the extensions still do not function properly, it may be another issue entirely. It may be a problem with the extension itself. Delete the old extension and download it again. In addition, the issue could be with the computer. Consult the owner's manual of the computer for possible issues with firewall or the operating system. Finally it could just be faulty extension that the code has been corrupted.
