The bright lights of Broadway call to many people. Actors, dancers, singers, writers and creative types from all over try to make their dream of making it on Broadway come true. Every show on Broadway has to be produced. You may be the right person for the job.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Be passionate about the art. Most Broadway shows don't even break even, so you can't expect to make big bucks on every show. True, there are some shows that rake in the dough, but they are few and far between. Become a Broadway producer because you are passionate and love the art and you will be fulfilled every time.
Step2
Make connections with as many producers as you can. It has been said a hundred times that it isn't what you know it is who you know. While you are out in the theater world as an actor, writer or audience member, put yourself in the line of contact for everyone in the business as you can.
Step3
Start small. By starting out as an associate producer, who helps bring in capital but has no say in the production itself, you can learn the trade from seasoned professionals. It's not possible to know too much about the business, so sign up for internships and work closely with actual producers before branching off on your own.
Step4
Become a jack of all trades. Become a Broadway producer by knowing the ins and outs of every aspect of the theater. It helps if you have a history in the theater. You must also have a strong business sense to raise money and market every Broadway show you produce. Understanding advertising and the legal issues behind Broadway shows is also very important.
Step5
Use your management skills. Even if you hire others to perform some of these tasks, you will be responsible for overseeing every aspect of the production. This includes the acting, directing, staging, finances, promotions, and travel. Well-honed managerial skills are paramount in becoming a Broadway producer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take college classes in Theater and related concentrations to understand the entire process of Broadway shows.
