Step 1
Choose a moisturizer that's high in oil content. If you have severely dry skin, this mixture will work well for you. However, if you have a mild to intermediate case of dry skin, you should use a moisturizer that is light, all-purpose and water-based.
-
Step 2
Determine whether your skin's dryness is a problem all over the face or just in spots. Many people have combination skin, which means that they are oily through the t-zone (nose, middle of forehead, and chin). Others experience dry, flaky skin all over. If you're a combination skin type, use a moisturizer designed for your type and dab it only on dry areas. Otherwise, use a heavier moisturizer all over the face.
-
Step 3
Seek out moisturizers that contain glycerin, dimethicone, hyaluronic acid and 20 percent urea for extremely dry skin. These ingredients will keep your skin supple and hydrated.
-
Step 4
Buy hypoallergenic moisturizers to keep your skin from reacting to perfumes or other additives. If your skin reacts to a product it may become exceedingly dry, flaky and irritated.
-
Step 5
Consider using an all natural moisturizer like olive oil. When used as a moisturizer it is dramatically less expensive than most store bought blends, and it won't clog pores. Apply olive oil to clean skin before bedtime or you can mix it with a bit of hypoallergenic lotion for a more desirable consistency.
