How to Find Pet Friendly Hotels in Louisiana

Pets throughout the United States are considered to be members of their families and more are traveling around the country with their human companions. According to the 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 63 % of U.S. households own pets. Because of the spending muscle people with pets are flexing, it's becoming fairly easy to find pet-friendly hotels in Louisiana, or in any other state.

1. Search for web sites that list pet-friendly vacation spots in Louisiana, or whatever state interests you. Use phrases like, "Louisiana pet-friendly motels" and "(Insert city of your choice,) Louisiana hotels (or motels) that allow pets."
2. Check Amazon.com for AAA Auto Club's publication "Traveling with Your Pet, 9th Edition: The AAA Pet Book." This guide is updated every year and lists more than 13,000 pet-friendly commercial lodging choices throughout the United States and Canada.
3. Certain hotel/motel chains allow pets nationwide, including Louisiana. These include, but are not limited to, Best Western Inns, Comfort Inns, Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Holiday Inn, Howard Johnson, La Quinta Inn, Motel 6, Quality Inn, Ramada Inn, Red Roof Inn, Residence Inn and Super 8 Motels.
4. Contact a travel agency in your area and have them plan your trip. Make sure they understand your need for a pet-friendly facility, taking into consideration the type and size of your pet and whether or not a pet fee is charged and if so, if it's within your budget.
5. Email the Chamber of Commerce in the destination city of your choice and ask them to help you find pet-friendly hotels. Not only can they make recommendations, they may have arrangements with different facilities to offer special rates to visitors.
