Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Plan well in advance, especially for a location other than your backyard. Many churches have a large group of children receiving First Communion at the same time and other churches in your area may be doing the same thing. Even for a backyard party, it's a good idea to get tents, tables and entertainment booked in advance.
Step2
Decide how much money you want to spend on the First Communion party. Parties do not have to be expensive to be fun, but a large brunch at a up-scale restaurant will cost a lot more than a informal gathering at a park or in your backyard.
Step3
Review the guest list to see how many young children are attending. Most First Communion celebrations occur when a child is in second grade, so the party should be a fun event for that age.
Step4
Find out what time the religious ceremony will end and start checking availability at local restaurants. Most First Communion ceremonies occur in the morning, so the party food is brunch or lunch. Pad in extra time for picture taking at the church and then travel time before guests are expected to arrive at the party location.
Step5
Discuss options with your child. Include locations that appeal to your child to help make it a memorable event. It could be a favorite restaurant or an unique place that your family has never been to.
Step6
Choose a restaurant that has a private room you can reserve if you are having a larger party. The guest-of-honor will be receiving presents and you will need extra space to set and possibly open presents.
