Sure, it's the Sunshine State and everything is supposed to be bright and cheery. But if you prefer to look on the darker side of life and wear black, even in the summer heat, you're not alone. Here's how to find your fellow un-sunworshippers in Florida with just a few clicks.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Check out the Florida Gothic website. Not only are local Gothic, industrial, EBM and synthpop events listed throughout the state, there is also a bulletin board for members to post their thoughts about anything.
Step2
Get out of the house and into a club. The Dark Side of the Net lists Gothic and industrial music clubs in Florida and worldwide. Links on the page take you right to the different clubs' web pages so you can find out what events will be taking place without having to call ahead. There are also links to other Gothic resources, like local Internet groups, across the state.
Step3
Stop despairing if you are in Central Florida, surrounded by all the happy, cheery theme parks. The Gothic Orlando website can put you in touch with all kinds of sunshunners like yourself. The online community page can put you in touch with gay Goths, biker Goths, crafter Goths and every kind in between. Goth-friendly services, like piercing parlors and styling salons, are also listed. The links featured on the site are not only for Orlando. They also feature links in Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami and statewide.
Step4
Meet some of the over 700 Goths who are part of Miamigoth's mailing list, if you are in south Florida. This online community has been around since 1999 and is open to members 18 years of age and older. Yes, potentially adult topics may be discussed here, but you can handle that, right?
Step5
Join Meetup.com if you are in a smaller Florida community. Currently, there are 50 Meetup groups for Goths in the state. It costs nothing to join most groups.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are under 18 and still want to meet others in the Goth community in south Florida, check out Miamigoth Gateway, a sister site to Miamigoth. It has more than 300 members at this time. This is also where the community can post flyers and information about upcoming dark events.
