You're at that special place with your girlfriend, the place in your relationship when you want to buy lingerie for her. But buying lingerie for your girlfriend can be a difficult process, if you don't go about it the right way.

1. Know your girlfriend's size. Go through her drawers, sneak a peak at her laundry or go shopping with her. There is nothing worse than buying lingerie that's too small (are you trying to tell her you want her to be smaller?) or too big (are you saying she's fat?).
2. Go through your girlfriend's drawers to find out what she likes. Find out what her favorite color is and what kind of lingerie she likes. Unless you know your girlfriend well, now is not the time to purchase a new look for her. Stay away from novelty outfits, wigs or costumes unless you are sure she would like them.
3. Consider going through a catalog with her, or asking her to circle things she likes in a catalog so you can get some general ideas of her taste.
4. Think about the body parts she complains about and the body parts she likes to emphasize. Maybe she feels like she has a great bust, but doesn't like her hips. When buying lingerie, you may want to purchase something that emphasizes her breasts, while skimming her hips at the same time.
5. Talk to a salesperson at your lingerie store. These sales people are experienced at helping hapless men find the perfect lingerie for every personality type and every body type. As long as you know your girlfriend's personality, and what she likes and doesn't like, a sales person will do everything in their power to help you find a good gift.
6. Be prepared to spend some time finding your girlfriend the perfect gift. You may have to go to several stores and talk to a few different sales people before you find a good gift.
