How to Go to the Newport Aquarium

The Newport Aquarium, located just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati in Newport, Kentucky, has been named the best aquarium in the Midwest by the "Zagat Travel Guide." The facility showcases thousands of fresh and saltwater sea creatures in over one million gallons of water.

      Get tickets. Tickets to the Newport Aquarium are available at the Aquarium ticket desk and in advance at Cincinnati area Kroger's stores or by calling (859) 261-7444. Same day tickets are only available at the aquarium. Discounts are given to children between two and twelve years of age and children under two are admitted free of charge. The Newport Aquarium is open 365 days a year.

      View the exhibits. The Newport Aquarium features 14 galleries with over 70 exhibits. Among the highlights are five seamless, interconnected viewing tunnels, the "Shark Alley" exhibit, the "Gator Bayou" and the Coral Reef.

      See the penguin parade. Each morning right before the aquarium officially opens, one or more of the Aquarium's penguins join a staff member and early guests for a "parade" in the lobby within a specially-constructed acrylic promenade. A guest is chosen to lead the parade. The event is free.

      Take a behind-the-scenes tour. See all the inner workings of the Aquarium in this special tour. Learn how the animals are fed, see the pipes and controls that maintain the tanks and visit the vet lab. The tour is given twice a day during the week and three times on weekends for an additional fee.
