How to Choose a Study Guide for the ACT

The American College Test (ACT) is a requirement of many college applications. It is a paper-based, multiple choice test comprised of four sections covering math, English, reading and science. Plan to complete the optional written essay if it is a requirement of the school you're applying to. A high score increases your chances of getting into the college of your choice, and a good study guide provides helpful preparation.

Review online prep programs at the official ACT website and other websites. This is a good secondary resource for students prefer computer-based learning. Study guides are also available on CD if you have limited Internet access.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Choose more than one study guide and study guide format if you can afford it and have the time to invest in studying.

    • Look into audio study guides if you are an auditory learner or are hard-pressed to find time to study for the ACT.

    • Do not rely solely on software or online study guides to prepare for this paper-based test.
