How to Spend a Day at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Texas

If you every visit Texas, there is an awesome safari in Glen Rose that is not to be missed--Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It is considered one of the 10 great places to go on a safari in the U.S. The entrance fees are relatively inexpensive, and both adults and children will have a great time. Below are some interesting activities that you can do if you have a day to spend there.

1. Pack a picnic lunch and your camera.
2. Bring money to purchase feed for the wildlife. You are allowed a bag per car. Check the website for current pricing.
3. Drive toward Glen Rose which is about 55 miles southwest of Fort Worth or 75 miles southwest of Dallas. The Center is off Country Road 2008.
4. Make a pit stop when you purchase your entrance tickets; there is no restroom available until the midway point.
5. Roll down your windows and drive leisurely through the 9 1/2-mile tour.
6. Discover wildlife up close and personal. Feed the animals that will come close to your vehicle. Be careful with the zebras--they can bite.
7. Have the kids check off the types of animals they see on the information sheet you picked up at the entrance.
8. Visit the Children's Animal Center at the half way point. There is a petting zoo with goats, giant tortoises and even an emu. Be careful where you step though.
9. Buy cool souvenirs and gifts at the Nature Store.
10. You can picnic at the midway point or eat at the Overlook Café.
11. Complete your drive and don't forget to look out for the cheetahs, giraffes and zebras.
