How to Plan a Golf Vacation in Colorado

Colorado has always been a winter vacation destination. But it's rapidly becoming a summer golf destination as well. The majestic Rocky Mountains serve as an awe-inspiring backdrop for many golf courses throughout Colorado. No matter what course or courses you choose to play, you can't go wrong. They are all beautiful.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Set a budget, and stick to it. Golf is expensive. Know what your limits are before you browse Colorado golf vacation packages. If the packages are too expensive, there are plenty of smaller courses in Colorado that offer exciting play as well.
Step2
Go online to look at Colorado destinations. Whether you want to stay near the Front Range cities of Denver and Colorado Springs, go into the high country near Vail and Breckenridge. Or, try several areas throughout the state. It helps if you know something about the state before you go.
Step3
Schedule your golf dates once you find the destinations you plan to visit. Some of the best known courses are booked months in advance. Most offer golf packages. The trick is to find a package within your budget.
Step4
Book your hotel rooms. If you have purchased a golf package, it may include the price of your room. If you are arriving by plane or train, you probably want to reserve a rental car as well.
Step5
Arrive in Colorado. Whether you come by plane, train or automobile, you should allow yourself some time to acclimate yourself to the altitude.
Step6
Enjoy your game. Remember, the thinner atmosphere causes hit balls to travel up to 10 percent farther. You can brag about those long shots when you get home.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you encounter wildlife such as elk or moose on the golf course, stay away. During the cooler months, the animals often enjoy eating golf course grass.
