The limited options of the Holga 120 camera can be a hindrance. Long exposure shots can be tricky. Fortunately, Holgaphiles continue to offer modifications to those wishing to expand their experience. Now one can simply add a cable release to their Holga 120 camera to allow control of the shutter and eliminate camera shake. The following instructions offer one an easy route to modifying your Holga with a cable release.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Holga 120 Camera
  • Holga 120 Remote Cable Shutter-Release Kit
Step1
Shop around for a Holga cable-release adapter kit. It can be purchased from specialty photography shops and websites or online auction sites.
Step2
Slide the cable-release adapter over the lens of your Holga 120. As these kits are official products of the Holga manufacturer, they are designed for a tight, correct fit.
Step3
Screw the twelve inch shutter cable into the hole on top of the adapter.
Step4
Mount your modified Holga onto a tripod.
Step5
Put the camera on bulb setting (switch located at bottom of the camera).

Tips & Warnings

  • These cable release kits are complete with a tripod mount, as the device covers the tripod mount on the camera.
  • Having a cable release on your Holga gives you the opportunity to experiment with night and/or infrared photography. Just make sure to have the appropriate film.
