How to Join a Fantasy Football League
Fantasy football is a game in which participants form leagues and draft real-life American football players onto their teams. They then keep score based on the professional players' actual performance on the field each season. If you have always dreamed of coaching a team with the best NFL players or owning your own team full of champions, fantasy football is an exciting way to pass the time.

Enroll in a League Online
-
1
Find a website where you can join a fantasy football league for free or by paying a fee. Sites that offer both free and paid leagues include Yahoo!, CBS sports and ESPN online (see Resources below). Choosing a league depends on how much time and money you want to invest. You can pay anywhere from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars a month or play on a free league.
-
2
Visit the site and navigate to its fantasy football page. This is usually found in the site's sports section.

-
3
Click the appropriate link to select whether you want to join a pay league or a free league. Generally, free leagues are less competitive and more relaxed. When you pay to join, the competition gets stiffer. The prizes and rewards also tend to increase with paid leagues.
-
4
Enter any information the site asks for in order to sign up. This is usually your email address, a team name and a possible online nickname to show to other players.
-
5
Choose whether you want a live or automated draft. This is a matter of personal preference and how much time you have to participate in a live draft. Select one based on your availability.

Tips & Warnings
Create an account. Most hosts, such as Yahoo!, require you to have an account set up with them in order to play in their fantasy football leagues. Signing up is faster if you already have an account set up before you join a league. You can also create one when you join.
Socialize. Joining a league is a good way to keep in touch with your friends as well as to make new ones online.
Avoid leagues set up specifically for people who played there during the previous year. A lot of people set up those leagues for their friends, and as a new participant, you may feel like a complete outsider. You might also have a difficult time getting people to work with you for trades.
