If you are planning a tailgate party with more than just a couple of local friends, it makes sense to invest time and effort in creating party invitations. While there is no need for anything fancy, the right invites can help you set the mood for the party and encourage people to join in the fun.

Send Tailgate Party Invitations

Step1
Send the invitations well in advance, allowing guests time to make a decision. If you need to know exactly how many people are coming in order to buy the right amount of food, ask them to RSVP at least a few days before the party.
Step2
Use paper invitations, and send them through the mail if you can afford to wait. In this case, it may be a good idea to ask people to confirm via email or by phone.
Step3
Be creative. Send invitations pinned to a miniature football or along with a noisemaker. You can get official NFL merchandise online if you want to support a particular team. You can also buy small party favors with a football theme, and use them to announce your tailgate party.
Step4
Create your own invitations in Microsoft Publisher or similar designing software. Use football-inspired clip art or search for photos of the stadium or the competing teams. You can stick to a basic design if you have no experience with the software, but don't be afraid to get creative and include quotes or special trivia in the invitations.
Step5
Use Evite or another online service to make the delivery quick, especially when dealing with people coming in from a different area (see Resources below). As long as you know for sure that the guests check their emails regularly, this is a good way to get in touch.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can hand-deliver your invitations, make them three-dimensional by adding themed toys or small presents. This is an especially good idea if you are inviting entire families to the party and children are included.
  • A great way to end the party is to give a small prize, such as a team cap or banner, to one guest. You can do this by including a special raffle number with the invitations, choosing the winner at the end of the game.
