Instructions

  1. Attend a Local Drag-Racing Event as a Spectator

    • 1

Bring a pair of earplugs, since the sound of many drag-racing vehicles can be literally deafening if you are too close to the track. Top-fuel dragsters are capable of being loud enough to trigger seismographs and can actually be measured on the Richter Scale.

    • 2

Use plenty of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Most drag-racing events last all day, and the grandstands usually offer very little in terms of shade.

    • 3

Pay special attention to areas of the track where spectators are not allowed, such as the pits and on or near the track.

Attend a Local Drag-Racing Event as a Participant

    • 4

Pay the required entry fees to race your car on the track. Most drag-race tracks will charge a fee for each time you use the track, while a few may charge a one-time fee for all-day usage.

    • 5

Submit to an inspection of your drag-racing vehicle prior to running a race. Cooperate fully with the race track officials, and don't take it personally if your car fails the inspection. This is for the safety of everyone on the track and in the stands, including yourself.

    • 6

Find out about all of the safety equipment required to race on the track, including fire extinguishers, roll cages, helmets, eye protection and even fireproof clothing. Much of this will depend upon how fast your car is.

    • 7

Obey all rules, regulations and instructions given by race officials, or else you may be disqualified or even banned from all racing events. Remember, their job is to make sure everyone has a fun, enjoyable and exciting time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear long pants when you attend a drag-racing event. That is usually the very minimum a race track will enforce in terms of dress codes and safety equipment. Wearing shorts to a drag race will make you look like a novice.
