Phones are rapidly becoming the 21st century version of the 80’s Boom Box! ..at a fraction of the size! It seems only natural then, that mobile phones should be used, as a permanent pocket-sized DJ unit, to blast out your beats just about anywhere you fancy!

How to DJ With Your Mobile Phone in a Club or Bar

Step1
DJing with your mobile phone is fairly similar to the concept of IPod DJing, that became popular in indie music clubs in London, around 2004/2005.
Step2
To start with, you will need to download (from the internet) and upload (from your CD collection) lots of tracks to your computer.
Step3
Decide what kind of music you would like to play in clubs and bars.
Step4
Upload the specific type of music you want to play to your phone. You may need to buy extra memory sticks to fit more tunes in to your playlist. The good thing is, unlike conventional DJ’s who break their backs carrying hundreds of vinyl records around with them, you only have to carry your tiny, featherweight memory stick!
Step5
To DJ with your mobile like an amateur, all you need to do next is visit a bar or club and plug your mobile phone in to the mixing desk. Next pick a tune, press play. As the track comes to its end, quickly chose another one and try to co-ordinate the two so that one starts as the other ends.
Step6
To DJ with your mobile like a professional, make sure you bring two phones to the bar or club. Plug the phones in the sockets in the DJ mixer conventionally for decks. Use the cross fader to switch between songs just like you do with normal decks.
Step7
Even better, use one mobile, and one CD or vinyl deck. This allows you to store most of your music in lightweight format on your mobile, whilst you also have the ability to DJ properly, scratch and mix tunes in a very professional manner.

How to Pre-record a DJ Set With Your Mobile in the Hope That You Will be Called to DJ Should a DJ Not Turn up to an Event!

Step1
Download the most up to date Nu-Rave, 80’s clash and break-beat tunes you can find.
Step2
Upload these tunes to your phone in a well thought out sequence.
Step3
Give the sequence a title such as “my awesome DJ mix”.
Step4
Go out to lots of clubs and bars and be prepared to plug your phone in to the sound system, should you be needed.

How to DJ With Your Mobile Phone Like a Chav

Step1
Take a bus or train from a small suburban town to another small suburban town with a gang of friends.
Step2
Set your phone to play as loud as it can!
Step3
Find a current, annoying, Hip Hop track that features misogynistic lyrics, race hate and gangland swear words.
Step4
Set the song to loop. Why take the time to chose a playlist? You’ll probably be thrown off the bus (or train) soon anyway!
Step5
Press play and hold your phone up just in front of your face.
Step6
Talk loudly to your friends. Prepare to be arrested.
Step7
Congratulations. You’re a Chav DJ!

How to DJ with your mobile phone in your Car.

Step1
Invite three friends to travel with you on a long road trip in your car.
Step2
Make sure they all bring their phones, loaded with plenty of music.
Step3
Convince them to upload the same core twenty tracks onto each of their phones.
Step4
As you set off with them in the car, propose the concept of a in-car DJ session.
Step5
Get each member of your car gang to choose a track in turn.
Step6
At the start of each new song attempt to set all four phones off at the same time, so that songs can play in surround sound!

Tips & Warnings

  • Always keep your phone charged up, or carry a charger with you at all times!
  • Never answer your phone whilst mobile DJ-ing. Worst case scenario, everyone in the bar will hear you discussing not doing the washing up, with your mum!
