Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Your first port of call should undoubtedly be www.ebay.com. The most well known auction site in the world provides access to completely new products sold by online stores as well as much cheaper almost new or refurbished products, sold by others DJs and music enthusiasts.
Step2
Check community websites such as www.gumtree.com and www.craigslist.com where you will find other DJs who are selling equipment, and who may also be interested in buying your old stuff! The best thing about this type of website is that you can advertise for specific equipment that you need, and have the sellers come to you. Easy!
Step3
Visit online UK shops such as www.decks.com, www.djstore.co.uk and www.thedjshop.co.uk who will be able to offer special online only discounted deals on equipment, and are likely to include free postage.
Step4
Read UK DJ magazines such as Mixmag, DJMag and www.365Mag.com. You will be able to find cheap equipment listed for sale from retailers in the back pages of these magazines and you may also stumble across reviews of new equipment, which you might find useful when deciding what to buy.
Step5
Always talk to other DJs and musicians that you meet. They themselves may be able to offer you their equipment or put you in touch with friends who are interested in selling good equipment. Social networking works just as well in the real world as it does online!
Step6
If bars or clubs are closing down ask them about where their equipment will be heading off to. It will probably be sold off very cheaply. If this is the case, make sure you lay claim to it before anyone else does!
Step7
Use www.facebook.com to advertise your equipment as for sale and to enquire about other people’s equipment too.
