Instructions

Text Size: +
Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
When you wish to adjust the settings on Windows Vista to establish what happens when you place a CD or DVD into your disk drive, you should first click on your "Start" icon. From here, you will look for the option "Default Programs". Once you find this open it; click to open.
Step2
On the Default Programs screen, you should locate the "Change AutoPlay settings" option. Once you locate this option, simply click on it to open. This option helps you to adjust if and when media is played automatically.
Step3
A new screen will appear. Here, you can select numerous options related to various media types and how they are handled when inserted into the disk drive. For this tutorial, we will locate "DVD movie", so that we can adjust the autoplay settings when one of these media types are inserted into the DVD drive.
Step4
When you hit the drop down menu on "DVD movie", you will be presented with different choices that you can select. These choices may include software that is specific to your computer, Windows Media Player, opening the folder to see the files, remaining inactive, or having the computer ask you what to do each time a DVD is inserted. You should make your selection here, based on your personal preference.
Step5
Once you have adjusted your AutoPlay settings on the key items of interest on this page, you must hit "Save Changes" for these system settings to take place. This is normally located at the bottom of the window that you are on.
Step6
You will be brought back to the Default Programs window. You can hit the close button in the upper right hand corner of this screen to exit out of this window.
Step7
You have now adjusted the autoplay settings on Microsoft Windows Vista. For more great computer related articles, please scroll to the bottom of this page and check out the resource articles.
