How to Use Thinning Scissors

Thinning scissors are used to remove volume from your hair. It's one of my favorite texturizing tools, and I'm sure they'll become one of yours after you learn to use them... which is actually really easy!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hair
  • Thinning scissors

Step1
Wet your hair.
You certainly don't wanna cut your hair when it's dry? Why? Because it damages your ends.
Step2
Take a thin section of hair.
Thin as in not too voluminous, but kind of wide.
Step3
Thin.

Ok the rules of thinning are really simple:
Curly hair: make two cuts diagonally
Straight hair: make two cuts horizontally
Step4
Repeat steps 2 and 3 in all your hair.

You know you're done when you feel your hair weighs the same on both sides... and basically that's it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't do this in your own head, let someone else do it.
  • Sometimes hair might get stuck in the scissors so watch out!
