Decorating one's home or classroom is a fun and easy way to share the joy of Ramadan. Since there are no "official" Ramadan colors or decor scheme, you're free to decorate as strikes your fancy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tape, stapler, or push pins for paper decorations or lights.
  • Scissors and/or pinking shears for paper decorations or trimming plastic flower stems.
  • Ribbons for swags or tying to balloons
  • Sufficient paper, fairy lights, balloons, artificial flowers and/or fruit, potpourri, etc. Use your imagination!

Step1
Decide upon the colors and materials that you want to use. Especially for your first time, limiting the variety of materials will keep you from getting overwhelmed. Select colors that coordinate well with with the current decor scheme- walls, flooring, etc. As Ramadan occurs during early autumn this year, an autumnal decor scheme may work well. Collect your materials- staff at craft stores will be able to assist you with estimating amounts, and stores like Michael's offer classes in craft techniques.
Step2
Try making a model of your desired decoration, whether a sign, a centerpiece, paper chain, etc. before going full-scale. Make sure that your support materials will hold, that any drying times are accurate, and that in general, what you've dreamed up will indeed work. An idea where you can skip this treatment would be baskets filled with fake fruit or flowers. Make sure that ribbons swags are long enough to cover desired areas, and fairy lights are long enough to reach the nearest outlet.
Step3
Once you've got the particulars in order, you're ready to decorate. Start with surfaces that are clean and dry, and have a work space cleared off before you start. Signs hanging in windows with fairy lights, ribbon swags around doors or banisters, and baskets of flowers or potpourri are all very easy and will last all month long.

Tips & Warnings

  • Beware of using candles- keep a fire extinguisher handy if you use them at all.
  • Don't overload electrical outlets if using fairy lights.
  • Use safety scissors is working with children.
