How to Act Like A 4-year Old, In a Good Way

We get so caught up in deadlines, schedules, alarm clocks, and commutes that sometimes we just forget what it's like to have fun. My four year old daughter is teaching me how to have a better outlook just by being herself. Here are some pointers from the kid.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A desire to have a better outlook.

Step1
First thing in the morning, wake up and look out the window. Find a small bird, squirrel, or bunny to start your day off with a smile. The kids think they're cute, but it helps to remind us adults that there are still things in this world that aren't driven by schedules and agendas. Besides, it'll give you a better appreciation for nature.
Step2
Smile as big as you can when you say good morning to everyone. They might think you had too much of the "wacky juice" the night before, but in the end it will rub off on them. A good start to the day helps everyone out.
Step3
Eat a good breakfast. Whether it's Froot Loops or an english muffin, a good breakfast starts the day off better than anything else. Especially when you add coffee.
Step4
Sing a song. So the theme to Strawberry Shortcake isn't the song of choice, but a good up-beat song in the shower or on the way to work can lighten the mood enough to keep the start of the day from being overly droll.
Step5
Say good morning to everyone you can at the office and MEAN IT! None of that false-positive stuff. Just be polite and work to keep yourself in the kind of mood that you would rather see everyone else in.
Step6
When the opportunity is proper and right, play a game. Do a puzzle (like a crossword or sudoku). Doodle. While it's not a good idea to do this ALL day long, it does help to stop and "sharpen the saw" every now and then.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep it real. You are still a grown up.
  • Be realistic. You won't change over night.
  • Taking a cue from the kids can be fun.
  • Some people aren't morning people or very positive. If you notice someone not responding well to a good morning mood, leave them alone.
