Ramadan Activity means spending time with Kids and family and helping each other throughout the fasting period. Inviting friends and enjoying the meal together also mark Ramadan Activity. The true meaning of Ramadan is emphasized during family get together and wishing their loved ones “Ramadan Mubarak”.

    Fasting during the holy month of Ramadan reinforces the family ties. At suhur the entire family along with the friends and acquaintances gather together to break the fast and to greet each other Ramadan Mubarak. Likewise at Iftar the family and friends come together and share the light meal in the spirit of Ramadan. The family together with the father as Imam even makes Salaat, or the five daily prayers.
    Fasting fosters friendship and social interaction as Ramadan is also known as the month of invitation. In that time of the year when friends, family members, colleagues invite their loved ones to their homes to have Iftar together.

    Ramadan is also the time when, Muslims gather in the Masajid for taraweeh or "night prayer" and ta'aleem to listen to the Quranic verses.     Here are some ideas to bring the kids closer to Ramadan traditions:

    Help your child to make colored paper chain and hang it on the wall or doorway. There must be thirty rings in the chain. Explain to the kids that each ring represents a single day of Ramadan. Everyday gently tear off a ring till the end of Ramadan. Remind the children that there can be 29 or 30 days in Ramadan.

    Ramadan is also the time for charity. To make the children understand and appreciate the act of giving, give the children a jar and ask them to decorate it with colored papers. Now tell them to collect coins from their allowances for the month of Ramadan. At the end of the month let the kids count the change and donate it to the mosque or any other charity to help the needy and explain the importance of Jakat.

    One can also encourage the children to make Ramadan lantern or Fanoos. Let them use colored construction paper or white construction paper and then color it as they like. But every section of the Fanoos or Ramadan lantern should have a different color. Now ask them to glue it on a cardboard so they can hang it wherever they like.

    Since Ramadan is based on the sighting of moon, it brings the attention of young kids towards the moon, stars and night sky. Ask the children to make night sky with three-dimensional objects, like cotton balls, ping-pong balls, broomsticks, clay etc. It can be a good educational experience.

    The month of Ramadan is declared over, with the first sight of the new moon and the month of Shawwal commences. People express their thanks to their loved ones for being their, on this stressful journey of spiritual renewal. The three day long "festival of fast-breaking" or Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan. It is a cheerful time along with festive meals after the month long abstinence and self-denial.
