Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wicker basket
  • Silk fern foliage
  • Floral foam
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Wire cutter
  • Decorative ribbon
  1. Step 1

Find a larger wicker basket. The basket can have a handle. Fill the basket with floral foam. Cut pieces of the foam to fit inside and completely fill the bottom of the basket. Secure them to the basket using hot glue.

  2. Step 2

Use a wire cutter to cut sections of silk fern plants. Cut the stems with at least 3 inches. Keep the a section of wire covered area without foliage, to stick into the foam.

  3. Step 3

Stick each fern section into the foam, filling the entire basket with ferns. The silk fern foliage should spill over all sides of the basket and around the handle.

  4. Step 4

Use a piece of decorative ribbon to make a large bow with long tails to attach to the handle. Coordinate the bow color with your dining room decor.

  5. Step 5

Place your fern basket in the center of your dining room table. It makes a beautiful centerpiece for everyday and entertaining.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the silk fern colors similar so your basket has an even color distribution. Using a light color mixed with a darker foliage could make it look like the plant is dying.
  • Use a hanging basket, and hang your fern basket in a corner of your home.
  • Add decorative grasses or even small silk flowers to give your basket some additional color.
  • Live fern baskets can be made using plants, soil and baskets with inserted growing containers.
