How to Crochet Solomon's Knot

There are many types of crafts you can make by crocheting. One of the fancier stitches used to give a lacy look is the Solomon's knot, also known as the love knot. This stitch is best suited for making shawls and wraps. It's also good to use as a second layer on top of a solid stitch layer.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Solomon's knot by knotting the yarn on the hook. Make one chain stitch. Determine the size of this stitch based on how short or long you make the loop. You want the loop somewhere between ½ to 1 inch long.

    • 2

Yarn over and pull yarn through the loop. You may want to keep your thumb on the back of the stitch. Take the hook and go under the back piece of yarn that your thumb is on. Keep the back piece of yarn the same length as the long loop.

    • 3

Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first loop on the hook. Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops. This is your basic chain stitch finish.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to create more Solomon's knot stitches. If you want to crochet additional rows of the knot stitch, work back with the small knots that are between the large loops.

    • 5

Try making something with the stitch by using a pattern once you perfect the basic Solomon's knot on your own. Many websites and books have available patterns for you to try out.
