Step 1
Go online to job websites and look at the resumes of others in your field. Read through several resumes to get an idea of how the resumes are being written. Look under "career advice" to find tips on resume writing.
-
Step 2
Use a good word processing program to create your electronic resume. A good program can help you create a unique looking resume and allows for changes and revisions. You will be able to copy and paste the finished resume into the body of an email for electronic sending. Do not send your email as an attachment, unless specified by the employer.
-
Step 3
Write a "professional profile" or "profile" into the resume. A profile is a summation of who you are and what you can do. Make it keyword rich as many employers now search for keywords in resumes. Keyword searches are usually done on nouns and verbs, but make sure the keywords specifically relate to the job you are applying for.
-
Step 4
Keep the size of your resume to two pages. Don't use fancy fonts unless you are going to post the electronic resume on your own website. Keep the size of the fonts the same except for headings. Don't have more than one font in your electronic resume, it becomes difficult to read and the employer may just delete it.
-
Step 5
Create your own website and your resume can look as professional or fancy as you want it to be. Find a hosting plan that also has a free website builder to create an eye catching electronic resume. Add the URL of your personal website to a cover letter written to prospective employees, or copy and paste the "profile" into an email to the prospective employer, along with a link to your website.
-
Step 6
Check all the facts before sending the electronic resume to any employer. Make sure your contact email and phone numbers are current. Be sure to run a spell check, along with a grammar check on your resume.

Also, a Resume Website could give you an edge among employers that ask about technical skills.
Good luck with your job hunt!
