The wheels and tires of a car are areas that are exposed to the most dirt and grime, and are arguably the most ignored. While a real car buff probably pays close attention to the condition of her wheels and tires, the common motorist is likely to overlook these areas. But, with a few simple steps, you can have your wheels and tires gleaming like the rest of your car.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather your cleaning supplies. Some experts say that water and a mild detergent will work the best. If you opt for a cleaner specifically made for tires and wheels, be sure to read the label carefully, as some of the cleaners on the market can cause discoloration.

  2. Step 2

Use a hose with the highest pressure you can get, and spray off the excess dirt from your wheels and tires. Wash one tire at a time. This will allow you to make sure they don't dry while you are cleaning another wheel. Dried soap can leave spots on your tires and wheels.

  3. Step 3

Using a shop cloth or a sponge, liberally apply the soap and water mixture and start removing the dirt buildup. Scrub the tire and the all the crevices on you hubcaps. Depending on how dirty your tires are, you might need to rinse with a hose and repeat one or more times.

  4. Step 4

Wash the rest of your car. Use a different sponge because dirt from tires can contain small bits of metal that will scratch the surface of you vehicle.
