Step 1
Close Mail running on your Mac. You can do this by selecting the program and pressing "Command Q," or by control-clicking the icon in your dock and selecting the "Quit Program" option.

Find an icon you want to use for your Mac Mail icon. If you do not have one you like on your computer, you can find several icons on Interfacelift.com. Download the icon you want and locate it in your finder.

Open the information window for the icon by highlighting it and pressing "Command I" or control-click and select the "Show Info" option. Highlight the small image of the icon in the upper-left of the window and press "Command C" to copy it.

Locate your Mail program on your computer. It is probably in the applications folder. If you have trouble finding it, control-click the icon in your dock and select "Show in Finder" from the menu.

Access the information window for Mail as you did for the icon in Step 3.

Select the small icon in the upper-left of the Mail information folder and press "Command V" to paste the icon to your Mail program. Open the program to make sure that the icon changed.

Step 7
Restore the icon to its default by opening the information window for Mail. Select the small icon in the upper-left and press "Command X" to cut the new icon and restore the default.
