How to Apply for a Job
Applying for a job is the first step in securing employment and can be as unnerving as the interview itself. Prospective employers ask a variety of questions on their applications. If you're looking for a job, these suggestions can help make the process a bit smoother.
Instructions

1
Submit a resume and receive a request to file a job application that gives the employer information about you that is specific to the position. Complete the application in person at the employer's place of business, at a job fair, online, via email or by mail.
-
2
Complete the job application with accurate information. Have available all information about previous employers, including addresses and phones numbers, supervisors' names, dates of employment, and contact information for all references. Be as neat as possible and write "not applicable" or "n/a" instead of leaving items blank.
-
-
3
Include a cover letter with email applications. Keep the letter brief and be sure to proofread for grammar and spelling errors. State the title of the position in the subject line of the email.
-
4
Apply in person on-site or at a job fair. Dress well and be prepared for an on-the-spot interview. Carry extra copies of your resume, letters of recommendations and any pertinent documents.
-
5
Schedule a practice interview. Know the location and how long it takes to get there on the day of your appointment. Show up a few minutes early. Allow time to collect your thoughts when it's time to meet the interviewer.
-
6
Ask the interviewer at the conclusion of your meeting when a final decision is expected. Stand out after the interview by sending a handwritten note with thanks for the opportunity to discuss the position.
