The entrance to your home needs to be inviting to all who come to see you. You can set your entryway apart from others by adding interest to the front door. Read on for great ideas to spark up the front door to your home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Wreath decorations
  • Door hardware
  • Doormat
  • Potted flowers
  • Bench or swing
Step1
Hang a grapevine wreath from an over the door hanger. Change out a decorative element on the wreath to match the season. Use fall leaves for autumn, holly leaves and berries for Christmas, a cluster of daffodils or wooden colored eggs for Easter, anything you feel is festive. The wreath and decorative elements can be found at any craft store such as Michael's or A.C. Moore. This is an inexpensive and versatile way to add interest to the front door.
Step2
Replace and update the hardware to add interest to the front door. Change out the finish with new door handle, knocker and kick plate. If you have polished brass fixtures, try brushed nickel for a new look.
Step3
Find a doormat that expresses your style inside the house and carries that style out to the front door. Keep it swept clean at all times to be more inviting.
Step4
Place potted flowers near the front door to add a splash of color and add interest to the front door area.
Step5
Set a bench or swing near the front door. If you have the room for one of these items, it will give you a spot to sit and watch the world go by in your neighborhood as well as being welcoming to those who come to visit you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paint the area around the front door a different shade of the color that the rest of the house is painted. It will draw attention to the front door in a subtle way.
  • Don't place items near the front door that create an obstacle course for guests. Have an uncluttered walkway to prevent injury from tripping over objects that are too close to the front door.
