The traditional way of making tea is to spoon loose tea leaves into a tea pot and add boiling water. The tea steeps, you pour out the tea and try to finish the pot before the tea gets cold. There are appliances on the market now to make a pot of tea as easily as you can make coffee, but a coffeemaker will make tea just as easily.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Automatic drip coffeemaker
  • Loose tea
  • Coffee filter
  1. Step 1

Buy a new coffeemaker and use it only for making tea. If you live in a busy household, put a label on the coffeemaker to make sure no one puts coffee in it.

  2. Step 2

Put a coffee filter in the basket and add loose tea. You'll want to have a teaspoon for each cup of tea you're making plus 1 extra. Adjust this amount to suit your own taste.

  3. Step 3

Fill the coffeemaker with the appropriate amount of cold water, put the carafe under the basket and turn the coffeemaker on.

  4. Step 4

Take care not to let the teapot sit on the burner too long because the tea will become bitter.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to deal with loose tea, skip the filter and lay 1 teabag for each cup of tea in the basket. Try to spread the bags out so most of the bottom of the basket is covered.
  • The best way to drink hot tea is with a little milk or cream. These will take the bitter taste out of the tea, leaving you with a soothing beverage.
  • If you like iced tea, begin with a pot of hot tea. Pour cold water in first, then add the hot tea from the coffeemaker. Sweeten the tea, then add more cold water and ice before serving.
