After the summer plants have lost their bloom, the fall plants begin their glory. The colchicum is among the glorious plants of fall. It's considered the autumn crocus, although they aren't of the same family. Colchicums are actually related to lilies and tulips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Shovel and tools to prepare the soil
  • Fertilizer
  • Colchicum corms

Step1
Choose a well drained area for the colchicum. The plant is not that fussy and can accept both full sun and partial shade in which to grow.
Step2
Add some fertilizer to encourage better multiplication and additional plants.
Step3
Plant the colchicum in the late summer. The plants grow from corms and will begin to appear in the stores at that time. Choose a color and variety that best suits your taste.
Step4
Plant the colchicum in scattered in clumps since the foliage of the colchicum is a little messy for beds and does not suit a bed.
Step5
Plant 6 or more corms in small drifts. Set them 3/4" deep and the same distance apart. Press the corm in lightly.
Step6
Move the colchicum, if the spot isn't appropriate. You can move the plants when the leaves have died down, in early summer or mid-summer, but the flowers have not yet appeared.
Step7
Relax and watch the beauty of the plant. There is little aftercare for the colchicum.
