How to Write a Press Release for an eBook

Most eBook publishers don't have a lot of money to throw around in the way of promoting ebooks. Once you're published, you'll want to contact newspapers, magazines, ezines, any type of media to get your book out there with a fighting chance. One thing all journalists are going to ask for is your press release.

Instructions

    • 1

Know what a press release is. A press release is the introduction of yourself and your eBook for anyone having anything to do with any type of media. It follows a pretty standard form that you need to stick with. This is not the time to let your creativity run wild.

    • 2

First, type some standard information at the top of the release. Type "PRESS RELEASE" in bold, capital letters and place it in the center of the line. Put your name as the contact person, unless you have a press agent. Be sure to include your contact numbers.

    • 3

Next you'll type "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE" at the left margin. If you're doing this before the eBook is released, type in the coming date of the release instead of "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE."

    • 4

Write the headline. This is where you can release your creativity to a certain degree. It should be short and attention grabbing, centered and bold.

    • 5

Write the body. Somewhere near the beginning of the press release's body, get in the city the press release is intended for and the date. Cover all the who, what, where, when and whys, with details of what it is about, why anyone reading should care about your eBook. Make sure to put a personal touch in there. Then sum it all up.

    • 6

Clearly mark that a press release is finished. To do this, type three space symbols (###) right under the last line, even if there is nothing that follows. Center them. Use a clear basic font and double-space the entire document.

    • 7

Send your press release out into the world. Since readers of ebooks are Internet savvy, look for free press release distribution hubs on the web to send it out to. Also, get your press release out to the local area papers and media. Self-promoting takes a lot of work, but it can be done successfully.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to keep the press release short, at just one page.

  • Ebook writers generally have a media page on their website that a journalist can easily download. For the generic media page, don't include the city or date.
