Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Provide enough litter boxes for your cats. The recommended number is two boxes per cat, because felines prefer to urinate in one and defecate in the other. By purchasing an extra box, you can prevent your pet from eliminating in other areas besides his box.
Step2
Find the area that works best for you and your cat. Location of the litter box is important to your cat. She needs a place that's away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living and that your dog can't access. She needs her privacy and you need to be able to get to it easily. A closet works best, with the door kept ajar.
Step3
Buy a hand-held vacuum specifically for your cat. Once the litter boxes are tucked away in a closet, you can mount a hand-held vacuum to the wall or the inside of the closet door. This will make it convenient for you to simply suck up any loose litter he tracks outside the litter box. Store extra batteries and the vacuum's charger in a portable drawer system or other plastic container
Step4
Install a small hook on the inside closet wall or on the inside of the door so that you can hang the litter scooper for quick cleaning jobs. Since the litter box should be scooped daily, hanging the scooper back in the same place every time you use it will make the job easier.
Step5
Invest in a plastic bag organizer. These can be found in just about any home or super store and can store a large number of plastic grocery bags. You can mount the bag organizer to the wall so that you don't have plastic bags all over your closet floor or have to go to your pantry each time you need to scoop the litter. After scooping the litter into one of the bags, double bag it before throwing it in the trash.
Step6
Store the litter next to the box. This makes for quick refills when the litter box gets a little low from scooping in between complete changes. Always fill the litter box halfway with the litter, providing enough so that the cat can scratch, scrape and cover when she is done.
Step7
Keep paper towels and spray cleaners close at hand. If you bought a portable drawer system for your closet, you can keep paper towels and spray cleaners in the drawers for occasional accidents and convenient cleanup. If you prefer, buy a mountable paper towel hanger and mount it to the wall or door.
