How to Use a Baler

Baling hay helps farmers save space by compacting it into smaller components. Hay balers have evolved from man powered machines where even the wire was manually put on to the electric powered machine it is today.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach your hay baler to the back of your tracker.

    • 2

Pick up the hay from the ground with the teeth on the front of the baler. These teeth gently move over the ground to prevent any leaves from being lost or debris to enter the baler and damage it.

    • 3

Feed the hay onto the compressor bar. The compressor bar will hold the hay in place while the auger feeds the hay into the bale chamber.

    • 4

Pack and compress the hay into shape with the plunger in the bale chamber. The plunger's in and out movement is what makes the hay compact. The plunger also cuts the hay into a uniform size.

    • 5

Wrap the hay bale twice with twine once it has reached the length you want. The twine is on two spools and is timed with the plunger to tie the hay at the right moment.

    • 6

Knot and cut the wire with the knotter gear. This takes about two seconds to occur and must be timed properly so it does not interfere with the rest of the baler operation.

    • 7

Drop the compressed and wired hay bale on the ground for pickup at a later time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the machine in good working condition by inspecting it every year before use.

  • There are different size balers. The baler used depends on a farm's size or desired size of hay bales.
