Step 1
Choose a central theme. If your bathroom already has a central theme, such as a country or nautical decorating pattern, choose candles that have colors and scents that match. Or incorporate the candles to create a new theme. Using candles as part of your overall decorating theme helps your bathroom look more cohesive.
-
Step 2
Use appropriate holders. Look for candleholders that work well in the environment. Candles placed in the bathroom must be protected from water. Use large candleholders or holders with tall sides so that water won't splash on the candle.
-
Step 3
Keep candles in a safe location. Do not place them where you will be using appliances like curling irons, hair dryers or electric razors; cords from these implements may knock over candleholders. Keep them out of the path of hairspray, perfume or other flammable products.
-
Step 4
Install shelving. If your bathroom is small or has limited surface space, install a small shelf, or a series of shelves, on one of the bathroom's walls and place your candles there. This allows you to decorate your bathroom while keeping your bathroom safe and free from clutter.
-
Step 5
Opt for clean, light scents. Using candles with heavy or overpowering scents could overwhelm the small space of your bathroom. Decorate with candles that make your bathroom smell fresh and clean. Citrus scents or some of the specialty candles that are made to smell like the ocean, clean linen or freshly cut grass are options to consider for your bathroom.
