After you decide where to go and what to see when you travel to Chile, you also should know how to dress for Chilean weather. You don't want to be too hot or too, well, chilly, so it's important to consider the different attire you should bring on your trip.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Protect yourself from the sun. Due the elevation and amount of UV exposure in Chile, it's important to be protected from the sun at all times. Sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts and pants will reduce the amount of UV exposure that you get during your travels.

  2. Step 2

Dress for the season. June through September is winter in Chile, and it can get quite cold. Wear warm layers and bring along an extra coat. October through May is the Chilean summer, and the climate is very moist and tropical. Dress in light layers, and don't forget to bring along a hat.

  3. Step 3

Be mindful of business dress. If you're planning to dress for a business meeting in Chile, know that it's customary to wear a suit to business functions. Women are usually impeccably groomed complete with makeup and hair, so you will want to make an effort to look presentable at all times.

  4. Step 4

Wear something authentic. Chile is known for the poncho, sombrero and spurs, so you might want to pick up some of this authentic gear in a local shop. You should wear these items as a novelty though--no one native to Chile wear these stereotypical pieces anymore.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be smart about showing off valuables. Leave expensive jewelry and other items at home, and wear modest pieces that won't draw attention to yourself.
