Being an uncle is the best of both worlds--you have nieces and nephews to play without assuming the responsibility of a parent. How can you make sure that you are your nieces' and nephews' favorite uncle? Just follow the steps below.

  1. Step 1

    Get to know each of your nieces and nephews. You must give each of them individual attention so they understand that they're each special to you.

  2. Step 2

    Pay attention to the age of each niece and nephew. A twelve-year old girl doesn't want to be treated the same as her six-year old sister and vice versa.

  3. Step 3

    Even if you live far away, maintain communicate with your nieces and nephews regularly. Write letters or emails, give them a call every few weeks and schedule regular visits. If you show them that you're interested in keeping in touch, they'll love you for it.

  4. Step 4

    Take your nieces and nephews to fun places. Try the zoo, an amusement park, the circus, a museum or anywhere else they'd like to go.

  5. Step 5

    Remember to send your nieces and nephews occasional gifts. Make sure the gifts are age-appropriate and are something that satisfy one of their interests.

  6. Step 6

    Don't play favorites. Treat each niece or nephew the same, with patience and understanding.
