How to Prepare a Child for a Sleepover

Your child's first sleepover is an exciting time for her, but she may also feel a bit anxious about spending the night at someone else's house. It is a good idea to review what she can expect before the sleepover.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Make sure you and your child have met his friend's parents. Your child probably will feel more comfortable at his friend's house if he knows and likes his friend's parents.
Step2
Pack everything she needs for the sleepover. Remember to pack things that make her feel comfortable at your own home. Pack slippers, a pillow and a favorite stuffed animal.
Step3
Be clear on what time he to drop off and pick him up. Let him know that he is sleeping at his friend's house and that you are picking him up the next day.
Step4
Let your child know the plans for the evening after discussing it with the other parents. Prepare your child for seeing a movie, dining out or staying at home.
Step5
Allow your child to call you if she needs anything, but encourage her to be a big girl. Sleepovers foster independence, so you don't want your child calling frequently. Tell her she is going to have a great time.
