Start with a basic store bought lampshade. Choose the size shade you want based on where you plan to put the lamp in your home. These unfinished lampshades are generally inexpensive.

2
Choose fabric for your lampshade at a fabric store. Bring color samples from home such as a paint color, throw pillows, a rug or a blanket. You want to make sure that the fabric you choose complements the other colors in the room.

3
Glue the fabric on the lampshade using fabric glue. Do only a small section at a time so that the glue doesn't dry up. Be sure to smooth out the fabric carefully as you go around the lampshade.

4
Tuck and glue the fabric just over the rim of the lampshade. Hold in place until the glue dries. Trim the remaining fabric.
-
5
Add trim to the top and bottom rims of the lampshade. You can use beaded trim, lace, sequins or feathers.

6
Embellish the lampshade with decorative designs. Glue on rhinestones, beads, brocade or any other decorative elements.
