Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Find out what procedures your local city or town offers for disposal of industrial chemicals. Often there are recycling stations with protective containers available to the public. Transport the refuse in its original container or in a tight plastic bag so the chemical waste does not contaminate other garbage or the workers at the site.
Step2
Follow the manufacturers' recommendation for safe disposal. Read the labels on the chemicals before you use them so you can prepare for the disposal. Call the supplier if you have any questions.
Step3
Burn PCBs in a hazardous waste container made specifically for that use. It will have the proper retainers for the chemicals that have such a devastating effect on the environment.
Step4
Use the proper receptacles when disposing of industrial chemicals. Leftover residues can contaminate other waste when mixed together. Fumes and ashes from industrial waste can be as toxic as the chemicals themselves. Care should be taken to minimize the side effects of the waste.
Step5
Wait and ask someone if you have any doubt. Keep the chemicals in a tight container until you can find a proper disposal site in your community. The local cooperative can be helpful.
