Making an alligator handbag is a challenge. The challenge is not because of the alligator leather but in the difficulty of the actual making of the handbag itself. Sewing and cutting skills are needed to fit the pieces together successfully.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Draw a picture of the handbag you wish to make or find a picture of one to copy. This will help you know how much alligator skin you need to purchase.
Step2
Purchase the alligator leather needed to make your handbag. Depending on where you live you may be able to do it in person or online.
Step3
Skive one edge so it is thinner than the other. Fold the edge back 3/8 of an inch, apply seam tape to the folded edge and sew it together with a top stitch to keep the bottom together.
Step4
Use copper piper filling for the handle to make it stiff. Again use seam tape, one piece on the edge and one in the center. Put the rope in without twisting it and then press the edges of the seam tape together.
Step5
Sew the handle using a roller guide to keep the seam straight.
Step6
Attach the handle to the bag with either tabs or by sewing it into the top of the bag itself. If you use tabs you will need to top stitch it down for a tight fit.
Step7
Fold the bag into the handbag shape and sew the sides.
Step8
Install a lining to protect the backside of the alligator leather.
