Instructions

  1. Preparing to Play the Part and Setting the Stage

    • 1

Make up different "fortunes" before the party for each person attending. Plan individual fortunes based on the number of guests or plan a minimum of ten general fortunes. Become familiar with them before the party, fair or carnival.

    • 2

Prepare several phrases that can be used as an answer to any specific question. For example, you might say, "The cosmic forces of the universe ebb and flow and the mystic mirror of your own mind provides the answer." Memorize the phrases.

    • 3

Dress the part. Women palm-readers should wear either a gypsy costume (tiered skirt, peasant blouse, scarf tied around head, lots of necklaces, bracelets and earrings) or a colorful caftan and lots of jewelry and scarves. Men should wear a clash of colors and a turban.

    • 4

Speak in a foreign accent to maintain the illusion of being mysterious and strange. When the readings are humorous, using a really bad accent also can be a lot of fun.

    • 5

Come with the right attitude. To have fun with a fake palm reading, the reader must treat the part seriously. Everyone else may be laughing, but stay in the role of the mysterious psychic for best results.

    • 6

Set the mood with a crystal ball on a round table covered in an exotically patterned cloth. A flickering candle nearby is also essential to produce the right ambiance. A backdrop of richly colored materials gives an added bit of glamour. Place the table and equipment in the corner of the main room, or commandeer an entirely separate room for the reading.

    The Party Begins

    • 7

Take the person's right hand, turn it over and peer down at it for several minutes. Look mysterious and all-knowing. Trace one line in the person's hand. Ooh and ahh as if something important has been revealed.

    • 8

Give serious fake palm readings by predicting outcomes in love, family, home, finances, career and health. Pronounce good fortunes that are fairly general in nature. For example, you might say, "Your love life will take center stage in the near future," or "A family problem is about to be resolved."

    • 9

Make everyone laugh with funny fake palm readings using the same basic areas of life interests. The more exaggerated, the funnier the fortunes. For example, if someone is known as a confirmed bachelor, predict that he soon will be married with five children.

    • 10

Add one last bit of excitement by asking if the person has a special question. At this point, say, "I must consult with the crystal ball" and then peer into the crystal. The question should always be answered as ambiguously and mysteriously as possible. Use one of the prepared mystic phrases.

Tips & Warnings

  • Occasionally pretend to go into a trance. This helps if you need time to think of something to say.

  • Never give a fake reading that pronounces tragedy or death. What may seem funny could cause great anguish for someone. Stay with positive predictions.
