How to Buy a Used Tablet PC
Buying a used tablet PC can not only serve most general computing needs, but can also save you hundreds of dollars over buying new. Here are some things to remember when selecting a used tablet PC.

1
Determine how much RAM you need. If you'll be multitasking you might need a somewhat faster processor, like 512 megabyte (512MB) of random access memory (RAM). This is memory your computer accesses to process information; the higher the RAM, the faster the memory is processed. Current tablet PCs have 1024MB or more of RAM. Unless you're playing computer games with sophisticated graphics on your PC, you don't need that much.

2
Decide what size screen you would like. If you're creating any graphics on your system, find a larger LCD screen and ask the seller how many pixels are burnt out. On tablet PCs, the LCD screens tend to gradually lose pixels. However, if you're not creating graphics, it is still a usable PC.

Check the available ports and drives on the tablet. If you have a high-speed Internet connection, you must have an Ethernet port so you can hook your PC to the net. Other things to check are the number of USB ports, the types of CD or DVD drives and battery availability.
-
4
Consider a lightweight model. The Slate is recommended because it's lightweight and portable, great for those who work on the road or attend many meetings. You'll appreciate not carrying around a heavy PC.
-
5
Examine the used tablet carefully. Most experts recommend buying an unused, older tablet PC rather than a used model. This way you know that it has not been dropped or abused.
-
6
Know the history of the tablet. If you don't know the seller, remember that you might have a lemon on your hands. Keep the price negotiations reasonable.

Tips & Warnings
Tablet PCs have one of the best handwriting recognition software available, so if you have horrible handwriting, choosing a tablet is a smart move.
You might want to get a screen protector to prevent damage to the LCD screen. This may prevent any further damage as well.
